One of the most anticipated and beloved times of year at The Village is the holiday season. In our community, we know the importance of creating lasting traditions that our residents look forward to year after year.
At the same time, many of our residents have traditions of their own, and we look for ways to accommodate their celebrations. By bringing in family members, delicious meals, and festive decor (and fashions!), The Village really is the merriest place to be all season long.
This commitment to traditions is yet another example of what makes The Village different. While the holidays prove to be difficult for some people, it is our job – and our delight – to make each day brighter! Providing activities and routines for our residents helps keep any holiday blues away, and makes our community even closer.
Here are a few ways holidays are special to all of us at The Village.
Merry Meals
Although the food we provide at The Village is delicious year-round, our chefs give an added flair to the menus this time of year.
In the spirit of keeping traditions, our staff cooks make it easier than ever for our residents to host holiday meals of their own. For example, if a resident has always hosted Thanksgiving, they can continue to do so – and with the added help of our excellent catering.
Here’s how it works: residents let us know how many people they have coming, what types of food they would like to order, and where they are eating. Common areas are open for eating meals, or meals can be delivered directly to a resident’s apartment.
All of our meals are made at The Village, guaranteeing fresh ingredients and carefully-made dishes that everyone is sure to love. Our Newest Tradition
Keeping tradition alive is important to us at The Village, but we also know when to change things up! Over the past two years, we have introduced a new tradition that excites our residents and our youngest visitors alike: Elf on the Shelf.
Started by our staff a few years back, our Elf made his first appearance, decking our halls with his happy self. Through the season, we followed the Elf on the Shelf tradition of hiding our Elf throughout the community. Residents loved seeing where the Elf showed up next, and involved grandkids and other young family members in the fun.
When the holidays rolled around last year, we had not planned to bring the Elf back. However, thanks to popular demand and residents continuing to ask “where is the Elf?,” we decided to make it a new tradition.
If you come to visit The Village, keep an eye out for the Elf – only time will tell what mischief he gets into this year!
The Annual Favorite
Each year, the residents of The Village generously come together to collect money for our staff, as a holiday gift for our work all year.
As a way to say thank you for this kind gesture, our staff hosts an annual talent show, which we perform for the residents and their families each year. The talents of our staff are always entertaining, surprising, and fun for the whole family to watch.
The talent show has become exceptionally popular – last year the auditorium was overflowing, and we even had residents stream the show from common areas and their apartments!
The gift from residents to staff, and the gift of our talent show to our residents embody life at The Village. We are a community based upon mutual love and respect for one another. The holidays are the perfect time to celebrate everything we are thankful for, especially for each other.
