Wednesday, April 26, 2017 Spring Into Fun: Social Events At The Village
While there is always something going on at The Village, springtime brings much more than sunshine, showers, and flowers to our community. Spring brings about renewed energy and excitement to our halls, giving residents plenty of opportunities to socialize together.
Thanks to warmer temperatures and more active residents, our calendar has filled up more quickly than it normally does this month! Not only is this exciting for the whole community, but these events serve important needs, too.
The Importance of Socializing
As we age, many things change. From decreased activity, less interactions with others, and changes in scheduled routines, the life we once lived seems far away.
Because of these changes, many older adults can experience feelings of loneliness, depression, restlessness, and uncertainty. To help residents overcome these feelings, The Village creates an environment that is constantly buzzing with activity and encourages involvement from all.
Each month, we release a calendar of events that has an activity every day for residents to enjoy. Outside of these scheduled events, residents have their own fun through group mealtimes, creative groups like Seniors in Stitches, or regular card games with friends.
These social events are proven in many studies to drastically increase feelings of belonging, purpose, energy, and wellness. By keeping our calendars full, we are keeping our residents happy and healthy.
5 Ways To Socialize At The Village
Now that spring is here, there is no better time for residents to get involved and active. We certainly have a spring in our step with all the fun on the calendar in the months ahead! Here are 5 events that happened at The Village this April:
1. Mayor Mike Palazollo & Vice Mayor Mary Ann Gibson Visit, April 3
The Village loves our Germantown community, and we frequently make trips outside our walls to shop, enjoy the arts, and attend events in Germantown. This time, we were able to let some of Germantown’s finest in to see what The Village is all about!
On April 3, we welcomed Mayor Mike Palazollo and Vice Mayor Mary Ann Gibson to The Village. They toured the campus, especially some of the latest developments in our community, and spoke with residents while they were here. The Mayor and Vice Mayor’s visit is yet another example of how residents stay engaged with our greater community, meeting people they may otherwise not have the chance to meet – like our Mayor!
2. Birthday Party Night, April 4
If there is one thing The Village at Germantown loves, it is a good party. On April 4, we celebrated our residents with April birthdays. This celebration not only kicked off birthday month for many residents, but it was also a great opportunity for residents to mingle, chat, and sip on delicious drinks!
3. Easter Egg Hunt, April 15
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt invites grandkids (and great-grandkids!) to come spend time with family, all while enjoying fun at The Village! The Easter Egg Hunt has food, live music, face painting, and an appearance by the Easter bunny. This event is a great way to invite families in to see just how fun The Village can be.
4. Meet & Greet, April 25
Along with all the fun events – like movie nights, Wii bowling, brunch, BINGO, exercise classes, and so much more – The Village also sets aside time for residents to just get together. These meet and greets are an opportunity for residents to meet those who are new to the community, chat with our staff, and learn more about things happening within The Village.
5. Margarita Mondays, Every MondayA favorite at The Village, Margarita Mondays are in full swing now that spring has arrived. Residents can join us in the Polo Lounge & Grille, where our bartender serves up plenty of cocktails. Outside of the bar, there is some outdoor space where residents can enjoy their drinks in the beautiful spring weather.
Margarita Mondays are another example of how our residents are always up for a good time, especially when it involves socializing together.
